Ivor_E_Tower Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 I have had a mechanic take a butchers on a four poster Hmm, time to report this ? ^_^ Any smell of fuel should be investigated as it isn't right. Feeling a bang through the seat after you have braked usually means that someone has driven into the back of you - something else not right. ^_^ Quote
Big Jim's Lad Posted December 16, 2004 Author Report Posted December 16, 2004 I have had a mechanic take a butchers on a four poster hmmm I did'nt see the innuendo as I was writing this apologies for my confusing double entendres oooeeer! ^_^ Quote
seatkid Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 see here re smell The bang may be the sloshing of the petrol in the tank, it does on diesel and is more a thud than a bang and it can repeat two or three times after a brisk stop. You should check the lower engine mounting the bolt often snaps see here leads to all sorts of noises. Quote
johnb80 Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 The cam chain tensioner would be working better when the engine is cold because the oil is thicker, pressure higher and the chain shorter so I don't think that is the cause of your problem. The aux or booster heater as far as I know is only fitted to diesels. ridway Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 Definatley, the bang, bump, knock- call it what you may is down to fuel sloshing in the tank. I get this condition and it is always at its loudest when the tank is two third to three quarts full. It also happens to a greater extent when pointing steeply down hill. I do experience a brief wiff of fuel as well just after alighting from the gal after hearing this noise. Rich Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted December 16, 2004 Report Posted December 16, 2004 2. Most likely the secondary air pump cutting in 3. As mentioned by the earlier posts it's most likely the fuel sloshing around in the tank! the petrol smell is most like the carbon canistor leaking, if the smell is strongest in the region of the drivers side front wheel arch? the carbon canistor collects the fumes from the fuel system and stores them, when the engine is running a valve is opened on the intake system and the fumes are sucked into the engine to be burnt ^_^ check the pipes are securely located! Big Jim's Lad Posted December 18, 2004 Author Report Posted December 18, 2004 Thanks for all the info, I will get a look at the canister as soon as I can, and at least I know I am not alone in having a 'thudding' fuel tank. Cheers :) Quote
Guest Picard Posted February 6, 2005 Report Posted February 6, 2005 Thanks for all the info, I will get a look at the canister as soon as I can, and at least I know I am not alone in having a 'thudding' fuel tank. Cheers :) They are all correct, this is a problem, had me baffeled for ages and then i sussed it. Fill the tank 3/4 full and boy u can feel it. Knock/Ticking noise, how about this. My galaxy upon startup started knocking/ticking, more so when i put my foot on the gas. After a while when the engine gets hot it stops. This thured out to be a loose bolt on the oulet manifold. when fixed this also stopped the sight misfire feeling i was getting when excelarating..mad init? Quote
